All the old paintings on the tombs They do the sand dance don't you know

My 6 year old brought home a book from the school library about mummies. Real mummies. Like The Iceman. Complete with full glossy photos.

The storytime questions sorta went like this:

"MOMMY, WHAT IF WE WERE WALKING ON THE MOUNTAIN AND WE SAW THAT MUMMY AND IT TURNED IT'S HEAD AND BLINKED AT US?"

Um, that would be scary. And we'd run.

"MOMMY IS THAT A BABY? WHY DID IT DIE? HOW DID IT DIE?" (yes, it actually had a photo of a mummified baby found in China)

Well, um, old age?

"DO WE ALL BECOME SKELETONS AFTER WE DIE AND HOW DO I BECOME A MUMMY?"

The all-caps really does not do the shrieking justice. It was times three with all of them clustered around me half-scared witless, half jumping out of their skin with curiosity.
Now they are all sleeping (not sleeping) in our bed.

Thanks school library! Thanks a bunch. Maybe next time maybe you could suggest the book on blood-sucking vampires or perhaps the ever popular "The monsters that live in your closet?"

Now I'm watching "I am Legend" and it's making me nerrrrrrrvous.

Sounds like you had an interesting chat with your kids. Those are the ones that we always remember.
